If you need more bathroom storage space, install an overhead vanity.

    Materials:

    Overhead vanity
    Stud sensor
    Measuring tape
    Lumber for ledger strip
    Drill
    Galvanized screws

    1. Use a stud sensor to locate the wall studs (figure A).
    2. Draw vertical lines as a reference to the location of the studs (figure B ).
    3. Measure 43" from the floor, and attach a temporary ledger strip (figure C). Make sure the strip is level.
    4. Mark the ledger strip at the center between the two wall studs. Mark the center of the vanity on the mounting strip in back, and make a mark 8" to the left and the right of center. This will allow you to install the vanity directly to the studs, which are spaced 16" apart at the centers.
    5. Rest the vanity on the ledger strip, and match the center mark of the vanity with the center mark on the ledger (figure D).
    6. Screw through the mounting plate in the top corner of the back wall of the vanity. Use galvanized screws to avoid rust problems from excess moisture in the bathroom.
    7. When the vanity is secure, remove the ledger strip.
